Relieve Stress

There is so much to keep up with in our modern day lives! While technology has made life easier by giving us easier access to information, it has made us responsible for being in contact with much more too! Our brains are handling so much information on a daily basis; it’s sometimes hard to turn them off.

Ever have trouble going to sleep at night or going back to sleep after you have woken up to go to the bathroom? It’s a common occurrence in this day and age, and there is a physical reason for it, which can be controlled with stress management techniques.

Understanding Fight or Flight Response – Key to Stress Reduction

Our central nervous systems react when we feel stressed. When we feel the emotional stress of having too much to do in too little time, our body goes into a heightened state, a sympathetic nervous response or a “fight or flight” state of being.

You might feel your heart race, your breath quicken, or your muscles tighten. This is your body’s way of preparing you to either fight or run for your life.

Our bodies were designed for the green jungle, not the concrete one. Our nervous systems were designed for a time when our emotional stressors were immediately life threatening, when there were lions actually chasing us! These stressors were also temporary and our stress levels and hormones returned to normal when the stressor (the lion) was gone. In the modern world, our stressors don’t go away and our bodies constantly live in an elevated state of stress and hormones (including cortisol) unless we learn to reduce and relive stress.

Stress Relief & Reduction Techniques

Now, while it is true, that if you don’t handle everything you need to handle at work, you may lose your job, which effects your livelihood. However, most likely, you are not going to actually die if you don’t get something done today; your boss may yell at you or put you on probation, but he or she is not actually going to bite your head off. It only feels that way because our bodies were designed for an earlier time when stress did mean we might die.

The Lara Touch helps your body relax in the face of the stress, telling your body that there’s no lion chasing you and your life is not being threatened, which shifts you to a safe, calm and restorative state.

As you sit for a couple minutes in a specific posture or hold points on your head, you can feel your body relax. As you involuntarily exhale, you will feel tight muscles relax and a sense of calm come over you. You are training your body to stay relaxed in the face of emotional stress. While you can’t control stressors like the market, traffic or your boss’s reaction, you CAN control how you body reacts to it!

Doctors have linked emotional stress to heart disease, cancer, auto-immune diseases neck, and back pain.

In our stress relief sessions, we rate your energy level, stress level, and the level of any physical discomfort, before and after the session.

We rate the intensity of your stress on a scale from 1-10, we take a pre and post session picture, and we also perform a muscle test while you are thinking about the stressor to see if it has a weakening response for your body at the beginning and the end of the session. People generally look different, eyes brighter, fewer lines post session, and they generally move from 3-9 points on the stress scale. They typically test strong after a previously weak test while thinking of the stressor in their life. People’s energy levels generally also increase as a result of releasing their body’s stress response. You will learn these stress relief techniques and be able to implement them on your own when new stressors arise.
